Pruning

- Crown Clean: This is the removal of dead, broken, and crossing limbs, sucker sprouts on trunks, and weak or diseased limbs. We will specify the size of dead limbs to remove; usually one inch diameter and larger. The purpose of the crown clean is to improve structure, appearance and health. The outside appearance of the canopy will be affected very little.

- Crown Raise: This is the raising of the lower limbs by pruning them up, or removing them back to the main trunk as needed. We will specify the height to the outside of the canopy, such as 10-12 feet from the ground and 5-6 feet off the house.

- Crown Reduction : This is a reduction in the height and/or spread of a tree by pruning back the tips of the limbs. This procedure is only for soft-wooded trees such as a Bradford Pear, since they are the most prone to break in a storm. It is best to cut back to a secondary limb with a proper cut, except on Bradford Pears. We treat these trees like a bush and cut back to a symmetrical shape.

Removals - Stump Grinding

- Back Yard Specialist! (No truck access)

- Stump grinding is usually done 2-4 days after the removal. Stump grindings are usually raked into a pile over the hole or hauled away.

- Having your utility lines located before grinding is an essential part of the grinding process.

Standard Practices

- We prune most trees Year-Round. How you prune is more important than when. However there are Exceptions: American Elms primarily Winter only, Red Oaks primarily Fall & Winter only.

- We never use spikes to climb your tree unless it is a removal. Climbing with spikes creates wounds on the trunk, and can spread disease.

- We do not “Top” trees. This is an outdated practice and is detrimental to the tree.
